Marquette, MI – A Dense Fog Advisory is in effect for parts of Lake Superior through 3 AM EDT Saturday, April 12, 2025. Dense fog will reduce visibility to less than one nautical mile, making navigation hazardous. The advisory affects waters east of a line from Manitou Island to Marquette and west of a line from Grand Marais to the U.S.-Canadian border, extending beyond 5 nautical miles from shore. It also includes waters from Grand Marais to Whitefish Point.
According to the National Weather Service, the fog may significantly impact marine traffic, creating challenges for boaters and mariners. Low visibility can make it difficult to navigate safely, increasing the risk of accidents. Mariners are urged to use proper fog signals, ensure all running lights are on, and utilize radar and compass to help guide their vessels.
This advisory is a reminder for anyone on the water to exercise extra caution. The dense fog is expected to persist until early Saturday morning, with conditions improving as the night progresses.
