Detroit, MI – Wolverine Packing Co. has recalled approximately 167,277 pounds of ground beef products due to potential contamination with E. coli O157:H7. The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced the recall Wednesday, warning consumers about the affected products shipped nationwide to restaurants.
According to FSIS, the contamination was linked to illnesses reported earlier this month in Minnesota. Investigators identified E. coli in a sample of the company’s beef. Fifteen individuals have fallen ill, with onset dates ranging from November 2 to November 10.
The recalled products bear the establishment number “EST. 2574B” within the USDA inspection mark. Consumers are urged to discard these products or return them to the place of purchase. FSIS recommends cooking ground beef to 160°F to eliminate harmful bacteria.
Symptoms of E. coli infection include abdominal cramps and bloody diarrhea, with severe cases potentially leading to kidney failure. Anyone experiencing symptoms should seek medical attention immediately.
