Miami, FL – High winds and hazardous rip currents are sweeping across Miami’s eastern coastline today, raising concerns for beachgoers and locals. With breezy conditions and gusts of up to 30 mph, the National Weather Service (NWS) warns that rip currents pose a serious risk for swimmers. Anyone visiting the beach should avoid entering the water and heed posted warnings, as these conditions are expected to persist through the day.
According to the NWS, Wednesday’s forecast calls for a high near 82°F with a 30% chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms, primarily in the afternoon. Winds from the east are expected to maintain speeds around 22 mph, adding to the surf’s intensity and increasing the likelihood of rip currents along the coast.
The hazardous conditions continue through Thursday, with Miami seeing partly cloudy skies, a high near 82°F, and gusty breezes. Overnight temperatures will dip to about 77°F, while a slight chance of showers lingers into the evening. Friday promises sunny skies with reduced winds, allowing for a calmer beach experience; however, swimmers should remain cautious.
For the weekend, Miami is set to enjoy mostly sunny skies and a high of 83°F on Saturday, with just a slight chance of showers in the afternoon. Winds will decrease to 18-20 mph, and beach conditions should improve. Sunday brings another warm, breezy day with clear skies, ideal for outdoor activities.
Local authorities urge residents and visitors to monitor weather alerts and exercise caution near the water. For those unfamiliar with rip currents, NWS Miami recommends swimming parallel to the shore to escape if caught in one.
