Miami, FL – At 4:14 AM EST Sunday, the National Weather Service in Miami issued an urgent weather update warning residents across South Florida to prepare for windy conditions developing late tonight and intensifying Monday behind a passing cold front.
According to the National Weather Service, the strongest winds are expected Monday morning through mid-afternoon, with sustained winds of 15 to 20 mph and maximum gusts between 30 and 40 mph. Forecast guidance shows a high probability of gusts exceeding 30 mph, particularly along the Atlantic coast, with some areas seeing stronger isolated gusts.
These winds could make driving difficult for high-profile vehicles, including trucks, vans, and RVs, especially on exposed roadways and bridges. Officials also warn that tree debris may fall and unsecured outdoor items such as patio furniture, trash cans, sports equipment, and trampolines could be blown or tossed, creating safety hazards.
The strongest impacts are expected across Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach counties, though breezy to windy conditions will be felt across much of South Florida. Coastal communities may experience the highest gusts due to the pressure gradient behind the front.
Residents are urged to store or secure loose outdoor items today, particularly in coastal and east-facing locations. Boaters should also exercise caution, as choppy marine conditions may accompany the increased winds.
Winds are expected to gradually diminish later Monday afternoon and evening as the pressure gradient relaxes. No widespread power outages are expected at this time, but isolated issues are possible where gusts are strongest.
The National Weather Service advises residents to monitor local forecasts and remain alert for additional wind advisories if conditions intensify.
