Miami, FL – Heavy rain will begin increasing late tonight, with multiple rounds of downpours expected to bring several inches of rainfall and possible street flooding across South Florida through midweek.
According to the National Weather Service in Miami, a stalled frontal boundary will allow repeated waves of rain to move over the same areas from overnight through Wednesday. Most locations could see 1 to 3 inches of rain, but higher totals between 4 and 6 inches are possible, especially along the east coast metro areas including Miami, Fort Lauderdale, and West Palm Beach.
The greatest concern is localized urban flooding, particularly in low-lying neighborhoods and areas with poor drainage. Roads could become impassable at times, especially during heavier bursts of rain between late tonight and the morning commute hours through Wednesday.
Cities along the I-95 corridor are most at risk for higher rainfall totals due to coastal convergence, which could enhance rainfall intensity over densely populated areas.
Residents are urged to avoid flooded roadways, plan alternate travel routes, and move vehicles away from flood-prone areas. Officials stress: turn around, don’t drown.
Rain chances remain elevated through Wednesday night, and additional advisories or flood alerts may be issued as conditions evolve.
