Medford, OR – The National Weather Service has issued a Fire Weather Watch for Modoc County in California and South Central Oregon. The warning is effective from Thursday morning through Thursday evening, citing strong winds and critically low humidity as major concerns.
The weather service reports that winds could reach 30 mph with gusts up to 40 mph in some areas. Relative humidity will drop to between 10 and 15%, increasing the risk of fire outbreaks. The affected areas include the eastern part of Fire Weather Zone 285 in Modoc County and the southeastern portion of Fire Weather Zone 625 in Oregon.
Residents are advised to avoid using equipment that could cause sparks and to follow local fire restrictions. The combination of high winds and low humidity could lead to the rapid growth and spread of any fires that ignite, making containment difficult. The public is urged to stay informed through weather.gov/medford and to plan activities accordingly.
