Carpentersville, IL – A structure fire at 708 Alma Court early Monday displaced 12 families and caused an estimated $250,000 in damage. Firefighters responded at 4:24 a.m., discovering heavy smoke and flames coming from a second-floor apartment.
Crews from Carpentersville and surrounding towns quickly deployed multiple hose lines to battle the fire. According to the fire department, the blaze began in a bedroom and spread, causing significant smoke damage throughout the building. Fortunately, no injuries were reported among civilians or firefighters.
By 5:16 a.m., the fire was under control. However, extensive damage rendered the apartment uninhabitable. The Red Cross is assisting families with shelter.
A total of 26 departments responded to the fire, including East Dundee, Elgin, and Hoffman Estates. Authorities are still investigating the cause.
The fire department praised the quick response of assisting crews and their role in limiting the spread. Initial damage estimates place the loss at $250,000.
