Boston, MA — A winter storm is set to deliver up to 6 inches of snow across western and central Massachusetts, starting Thursday. Communities along the I-90 corridor, including Worcester and Pittsfield, are expected to face the heaviest snowfall.

According to the National Weather Service in Boston, the snow will begin after sunset Wednesday, intensifying overnight before tapering off Thursday. Areas west of I-495, such as Fitchburg and Greenfield, could see between 4 to 6 inches, while Boston and eastern Massachusetts will experience lighter amounts of 1 to 2 inches.

The combination of freezing temperatures, accumulating snow, and gusty winds up to 30 mph will create hazardous road conditions, particularly during the Thursday morning commute. Drivers are urged to exercise caution, plan extra travel time, and stay updated on road conditions.

Beyond the storm, the forecast shows a shift to clear but colder weather on Friday, with highs near 33°F and lows dipping into the teens. The weekend will bring more stable conditions, with sunshine and highs in the mid-30s.

Stay informed by checking local forecasts and prepare for potential delays or disruptions, especially if traveling through affected areas. Have winter safety kits ready for vehicles, including blankets, flashlights, and extra water.
