Boston, MA – Massachusetts residents should brace for a sharp temperature drop early next week as a powerful Arctic cold front sweeps across New England. According to the NOAA Weather Prediction Center, the front will push through the state Monday, November 10, bringing the coldest air of the season and widespread frost and freeze conditions by early Tuesday morning.

Forecasters expect overnight lows to fall into the mid-20s across western and central Massachusetts and the upper-20s to low-30s elsewhere, including portions of Greater Boston and southeastern areas. Even along the coast, readings are likely to dip near freezing for the first time this fall.

Behind the front, brisk northwest winds will gust between 20 and 30 mph Monday evening, pulling in Arctic air from Canada. The Weather Prediction Center’s Day 3–7 Hazards Outlook places all of Massachusetts within a broad “Frost/Freeze” risk area stretching from the Gulf Coast to the Northeast, highlighting the widespread reach of the early-season chill.

Tuesday morning commuters can expect crisp, frosty conditions and possible icy patches on bridges and overpasses, particularly in rural and elevated areas. Daytime highs on Tuesday will only reach the upper-30s to low-40s, nearly 15 degrees below seasonal averages.

Meteorologists say the cold air mass will linger through midweek before temperatures gradually rebound later in the week. The hard freeze will officially end the growing season for any remaining crops and gardens statewide.

Residents are advised to protect outdoor plumbing, cover sensitive plants, and bring pets indoors as temperatures drop Monday night.
