Boston, Massachusetts – A round of midweek rain and possible thunderstorms could dampen afternoon travel across the Boston metro by Wednesday, with Interstate 93 and local roads facing slick conditions through Thursday night.

According to the National Weather Service in Norton, a 40% chance of showers begins Wednesday afternoon after 1 p.m., with isolated thunder possible before sunset. The storm system will linger, bringing continued rain chances Wednesday night through Thursday. Winds will shift from southeast to east and remain light, but periods of heavier rain may reduce visibility during commutes.

Cities including Boston, Quincy, and Brockton should prepare for pop-up downpours and potential thunder Wednesday evening. Wednesday’s high will reach near 71°F, followed by a low of 57°F overnight. Rain will continue on Thursday, with highs near 69°F and showers likely before 3 p.m. The chance of precipitation remains at 40%.

Drivers should allow extra time for midweek travel, especially on major corridors like I-93, Route 3, and the Mass Pike. Residents are advised to check local alerts, charge devices, and secure outdoor items ahead of potential downpours.

Looking ahead, Friday will bring a brief dry break with partly sunny skies and a high of 77°F. However, rain chances return Friday night and continue through Saturday morning. Sunday may offer clearer skies with a high near 72°F, but another round of showers could arrive by Sunday night into Monday.

Weather alerts remain possible later this week.
