Massachusetts wakes up to light flakes swirling past streetlights and a cold wind cutting through downtown Boston. Snow falls steadily this morning, and untreated sidewalks already look slick. Temperatures hover near 33 degrees, but wind chills sit closer to the upper 20s.

According to the National Weather Service in Norton, snow remains likely through late morning, mainly before 1 p.m., with a 70% chance of accumulation. Total daytime snow amounts should stay under an inch, yet bursts of steady flakes could briefly coat I-93, the Mass Pike, and neighborhood roads.

Skies gradually clear this afternoon, but the bigger concern comes after sunset. Temperatures plunge to around 5 degrees tonight. Northwest winds gust near 20 mph, driving wind chills below zero. Any melted snow will refreeze fast. This is prime flash-freeze season. Wet pavement today can turn into black ice by early Monday. Slow down and leave extra space if you’re driving at dawn.

Monday brings bright sun but only a 28-degree high. It stays bitter through the afternoon before clouds return Monday night. By Tuesday, milder air pushes in. A slight rain and snow mix develops late morning, then steadier rain takes over with highs near 41. Rain becomes likely Tuesday night and lingers into Wednesday, when temperatures climb into the mid-40s. Thursday reaches the low 50s, offering the first real March spring tease.

Clocks spring forward next Sunday at 2 a.m., and Boston will gain nearly 100 minutes of daylight this month. Longer-range trends favor above-normal temperatures late next week. Are you seeing slick spots or steady flakes in your neighborhood? Let us know.

Five Day Outlook for Boston, Massachusetts:
Monday: Sunny, high 28.
Tuesday: Rain and snow mix, then rain, high 41.
Wednesday: Rain likely, high 45.
Thursday: Chance of rain, high 52.
Friday: Rain likely, high 42.
