Massachusetts – Snow clouds hang low over eastern Massachusetts, and the air already feels sharper with each passing hour. Pavement remains wet for now, but Winter Weather is lining up fast as colder air tightens its grip heading into the weekend and early next week.

A developing Winter system is expected to bring accumulating snow to much of the state, with impacts increasing Saturday night into Sunday. According to the National Weather Service, confidence continues to grow in periods of heavy snow across eastern Massachusetts, including the Boston metro, with hazardous travel likely.

In the Boston area, temperatures fall steadily after a brief mild stretch. Saturday stays dry and cold, but conditions change quickly late Saturday night. Snow develops before dawn Sunday and may become heavy at times through the day. Current signals point to reduced visibility and snow-covered roads during the busiest travel windows.

Sunday’s high struggles to reach the mid-20s. Snow rates may intensify during the morning and afternoon, making untreated roads slick. I-93, the Mass Pike, Route 128, and local city streets could see rapid deterioration. Even brief melting may refreeze quickly as Arctic air deepens, raising the risk for flash freezing by evening.

Snow lingers into Sunday night, with additional accumulations possible. Gusty northeast winds add a biting feel and may create drifting in exposed areas. Drivers should plan extra time, keep headlights on, and avoid sudden braking if visibility drops.

By early Monday, snow tapers, but cold air remains locked in place. Any leftover slush is likely to freeze hard after sunset. Residents are urged to clear walkways early, protect pets from the cold, and prepare for slower commutes.

Looking ahead, the 6–10 day outlook suggests colder-than-normal temperatures persist across New England, with additional precipitation chances next week.
