Boston, MA – Beachgoers in Massachusetts are urged to exercise extreme caution this weekend as dangerous rip currents are expected along the coastline through Sunday evening. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Boston issued a rip current statement, advising against swimming in areas prone to these hazardous currents.
According to the NWS, rip currents can sweep even the strongest swimmers out to sea. Beachgoers are reminded to remain calm and swim parallel to shore if caught in a rip current. The warning covers beaches from Newburyport down to Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard, with a particular focus on popular destinations like Cape Cod and Plymouth.
The broader forecast for the Boston area shows mostly clear skies today with a high of 78°F, but cloud cover will increase on Sunday with similar temperatures. The beginning of the workweek will bring cooler weather, with a 60% chance of rain on Monday and highs in the upper 60s to low 70s. Rain is expected to persist into Tuesday and Wednesday, with temperatures dropping into the high 50s and low 60s.
