According to the Climate Prediction Center’s 6–10 Day Outlook issued July 30, Massachusetts is favored to experience above-normal temperatures and above-normal precipitation throughout the outlook period. The combination points to a warm, humid pattern with multiple opportunities for rainfall across both eastern and western portions of the Commonwealth.
Boston and Worcester are expected to experience temperatures above early August averages, while cities including Springfield, Lowell, Cambridge, New Bedford, Pittsfield, and Hyannis could see scattered afternoon and evening thunderstorms capable of producing heavy downpours, frequent lightning, and localized gusty winds. Brief ponding on roadways and reduced visibility may impact travel along Interstate 90, Interstate 91, Interstate 93, and Route 128 during heavier showers.
The added rainfall may provide beneficial moisture for lawns and agriculture, but isolated storms could also disrupt beach plans, outdoor festivals, and recreation across Cape Cod, the Islands, and the Berkshires.
