Greenfield, MA – Troopers arrested a Vermont man early Wednesday after a high-speed chase on I-91 led to the discovery of suspected narcotics. At around 2 a.m., Troopers Matthew Wilhite and Scott Boutell spotted a vehicle without valid plates speeding at 90 mph on I-91 northbound in Greenfield. Recognizing the vehicle from an earlier traffic stop, Troopers activated their cruiser lights and managed to stop it.

Upon approach, they identified the driver as Deven Barrette, 33, of Sheldon, Vermont, previously released after an earlier stop. Troopers detained Barrette and, during a search, reportedly discovered a device containing suspected crack cocaine and a package with 50 grams of suspected heroin.

Barrette was transported to Shelburne Falls Barracks for booking, with bail set at $10,000. He faces charges of trafficking heroin and fentanyl, unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, speeding, and a license plate violation. Barrette was later arraigned in Greenfield District Court.
