Boston, MA – Residents across Massachusetts are under a Red Flag Warning today, with fire conditions expected to remain high due to powerful winds and low humidity levels. The National Weather Service has issued this critical alert, warning that outdoor burning and activities that produce sparks could quickly ignite a wildfire. Conditions are especially hazardous in Boston, as well as surrounding areas across Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Connecticut.

According to the National Weather Service, the warning is in effect from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, with wind gusts anticipated to reach between 25 to 35 mph and relative humidity dropping as low as 35%. These factors, combined with dry vegetation, create ideal conditions for wildfires to spread rapidly. Residents are urged to properly discard cigarette butts, avoid using equipment that may generate sparks, and refrain from outdoor burning throughout the day.

With temperatures expected to reach a high of 51°F under sunny, breezy skies, today’s weather highlights the need for caution. Winds from the northwest will continue to intensify, gusting up to 36 mph by the afternoon, which could further aggravate fire risks in already dry areas.

Looking ahead, Wednesday will bring slightly cooler conditions with a high of 45°F, but the risk of fire remains due to persistent dry air. Thursday and Friday may see some relief with a slight chance of rain on Friday, potentially helping to dampen the landscape. However, until then, officials are emphasizing fire safety and preventive measures to reduce the risk of accidental wildfires.

Authorities are also advising residents to prepare for potential evacuation orders in high-risk zones, should a fire develop. Those in affected areas should stay informed through the National Weather Service and local emergency channels for updates and further guidance.
