Boston, MA – Massachusetts residents should prepare for elevated fire weather conditions today as dry and breezy weather raises the risk for potential wildfires. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Boston has issued a Special Weather Statement advising residents to use caution, especially around open flames and outdoor machinery that could spark. Winds from the north and northeast are expected to gust up to 25 mph along the Cape, with temperatures slightly below seasonal averages, reaching highs around 47 degrees in the Boston area.

According to the NWS, the dry conditions, combined with winds reaching up to 10 mph inland and higher gusts along coastal areas, will contribute to an increased fire risk through Friday. The agency recommends residents avoid any outdoor activities that may generate sparks or open flames and be cautious with potential fire sources like grills or machinery.

Looking ahead to the weekend, a gradual warm-up is anticipated across Massachusetts, with temperatures projected to climb into the mid-50s to low 60s by Sunday. Friday will bring mostly sunny skies with highs around 55 degrees, while Saturday’s forecast calls for highs near 57 degrees with gusty winds reaching 22 mph. By Sunday, temperatures could reach 60 degrees under sunny skies, offering a mild end to the weekend before another partly sunny day on Monday with highs around 61 degrees.

The NWS urges Massachusetts residents to remain vigilant, especially those in wooded or open areas, and to monitor local weather updates for any further advisories.
