Providence, RI – Residents across Southern New England should prepare for sweltering conditions as a heat advisory goes into effect Sunday morning, with temperatures and humidity combining to push heat indices as high as 100°.

According to the National Weather Service in Norton, the advisory spans from 7 a.m. Sunday to 8 p.m. Monday, covering most of Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and northern Connecticut—excluding the Berkshires and southern coasts. Cities such as Providence, Worcester, Springfield, and Hartford are all under alert as the region braces for extreme heat, especially Monday.

Daytime highs are forecast in the upper 80s to low 90s, with overnight lows offering little relief, staying around 70–72°F. The oppressive heat and humidity may lead to heat-related illnesses, especially for vulnerable groups such as seniors, outdoor workers, and those without air conditioning.

Officials urge residents to stay indoors during peak heat, drink plenty of fluids, use fans or air conditioning, and check on elderly neighbors or pets. Communities in Foxborough, Framingham, East Greenwich, and Willimantic should also anticipate hot pavement and increased risk of dehydration during outdoor activities.

The heat advisory remains in effect through 8 p.m. Monday, with potential for additional advisories if high temperatures persist into midweek.
