Baltimore, Maryland – Bright sunshine is reflecting off Baltimore’s Inner Harbor this Sunday afternoon, but a major weather change is already taking shape for the start of the workweek. Summer warmth continues today, yet showers and thunderstorms are poised to arrive Monday with the potential to slow travel across central Maryland.
According to the National Weather Service serving Baltimore and Washington, Sunday remains mostly sunny and warm. Temperatures will climb near 89 degrees across Baltimore, while occasional west wind gusts could reach 25 mph. Outdoor conditions remain favorable through much of the afternoon and evening.
Meteorologists are now tracking a stronger weather system approaching from the west. Clouds will begin increasing later Sunday night before showers and thunderstorms become more widespread Monday.
The forecast calls for rain chances rising from 60 percent early Monday to 90 percent by afternoon. High temperatures will still reach around 91 degrees before rain-cooled air gradually arrives. Periods of moderate to heavy rainfall could develop as thunderstorms move across the region.
Drivers along Interstate 95, Interstate 83, Interstate 695, the Baltimore-Washington Parkway and Interstate 70 should prepare for changing conditions Monday. Wet pavement, reduced visibility and slower traffic may affect both the morning and afternoon commute periods.
Travelers heading toward BWI Marshall Airport should also monitor airline schedules. Thunderstorms can occasionally create temporary delays during peak travel periods.
While widespread severe weather is not currently forecast, thunderstorms may produce brief gusty winds, lightning and localized downpours. Tornado potential appears low at this time, but residents should remain weather-aware through Monday evening.
Conditions improve significantly Tuesday. Sunshine returns with highs in the mid-80s, followed by another pleasant day Wednesday with temperatures near 86 degrees.
Long-range outlooks continue signaling warmer-than-normal temperatures across Maryland and the Mid-Atlantic through late next week, reinforcing a growing summer pattern.
