Greenbelt, MD – A Maryland State Trooper was allegedly struck by a vehicle early Saturday while responding to a separate crash investigation on Interstate 495 in Prince George’s County.
According to the Maryland State Police, the incident occurred at approximately 2:44 a.m. on the inner loop of I-495 near Greenbelt Road. The trooper, assigned to the College Park Barrack, was allegedly standing outside his marked patrol vehicle with emergency lights activated when a gray Tesla reportedly struck the rear of the cruiser.
Authorities identified the Tesla driver as 34-year-old Teo Kim of Hanover, Maryland. Kim and the trooper were both transported by ambulance to nearby medical centers—Kim to Luminis Health Doctors Community Medical Center, and the trooper to R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore. The trooper was treated and later released.
Investigators believe impairment may have been a contributing factor in the crash, though the investigation remains active. Charges are pending consultation with the Prince George’s County State’s Attorney’s Office.
The Maryland State Police College Park Barrack is leading the ongoing investigation.
