Laurel, MD – A 77-year-old woman was killed Sunday night in a pedestrian crash on MD-198 in Prince George’s County, prompting an active investigation by Maryland State Police.

According to Maryland State Police, the deceased was identified as Asenakech Amdrufael Negewo. She was declared dead at the scene by emergency personnel. Negewo had been reported missing by the Montgomery County Police Department prior to the incident.

Authorities say the crash occurred around 9:17 p.m. Sunday, May 18, on eastbound MD-198 near the ramp from northbound I-95. Preliminary findings indicate a Honda Civic, driven by 44-year-old Rigoberto Cervantes-Ceferino, was exiting I-95 onto MD-198 when it struck Negewo, who was allegedly standing in the roadway.

The Maryland State Police Crash Team is leading the investigation. Officers from the Laurel Police Department assisted with road closures and traffic management, which lasted more than two hours.

The case remains open and under active investigation.
