Baltimore, MD – A Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been issued for Northeast Maryland, effective this Friday from 4:05 PM EDT until 9:00 PM EDT, due to the risk of damaging wind gusts.
The National Weather Service (NWS) Storm Prediction Center reports that scattered thunderstorms are expected to track across the region, posing a threat of isolated wind gusts up to 65 mph. The watch area extends approximately 60 miles north and south of a line from 40 miles west-southwest of Dover, DE, to 20 miles north-northeast of Lakehurst, NJ.
Residents should be prepared for possible severe weather, including extreme turbulence and hail up to 1 inch in diameter. The NWS advises that a Severe Thunderstorm Watch means conditions are favorable for severe thunderstorms, which can sometimes produce tornadoes.
Residents in the affected areas are urged to remain alert for changing weather conditions and to listen for updates and warnings.
