According to the Maryland Transportation Authority Police, the crash occurred shortly after 11:40 a.m. while the bridge was operating under two-way traffic conditions. Investigators say a passenger vehicle traveling eastbound veered into the westbound lanes for unknown reasons and collided with an oncoming tractor trailer.
The driver of the passenger vehicle sustained serious injuries and was airlifted by helicopter to Shock Trauma in Baltimore. The driver of the tractor trailer was reportedly not injured.
All westbound lanes were initially closed following the collision. One lane reopened at approximately 12:50 p.m., with full reopening reported by 2:20 p.m.
