Marquette, MI – Cold conditions will persist across the Marquette area through midweek, with lingering lake-effect snow and widespread light snowfall continuing into tonight, according to the National Weather Service.

The National Weather Service in Marquette said the region will see a brief reprieve from the bitter cold of recent days, though temperatures will remain well below normal. Highs Monday are expected between 4 and 10 degrees, with the coldest readings focused west of Marquette. Lake-effect snow showers are possible, particularly in northwest wind snowbelt areas.

Snow coverage is expected to become more widespread tonight, as a period of light snow spreads across much of the Upper Peninsula. Overnight low temperatures are forecast to range from 4 degrees to 2 degrees below zero, allowing untreated roads to remain slick or refreeze.

On Tuesday, lake-effect snow showers are expected to continue, with high temperatures ranging from 4 to 13 degrees, again coldest in western areas. While snowfall amounts are expected to remain light, repeated snow showers may lead to localized accumulations and reduced visibility at times.

Conditions remain similar into Wednesday, with continued chances for snow showers and highs between 4 and 14 degrees. The National Weather Service said cold signals are expected to hold into the middle of the week, keeping snowpack intact and prolonging winter travel hazards.

Commuters, students, and outdoor workers should plan for snow-covered roads, icy patches, and limited melting, especially during overnight and early morning hours.

Residents are advised to dress in layers, limit time outdoors, and monitor updated forecasts as lake-effect bands shift.
