Indianapolis, IN – A 16-year-old has been arrested in connection with the July homicide of Edier Hernandez-Rivera, according to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD).
On July 25, 2025, officers were dispatched just after midnight to the 400 block of Griffin Road to investigate a vehicle crash. Police found Hernandez-Rivera, the lone occupant of the vehicle, suffering from gunshot wounds. Shell casings were located nearby, and EMS transported the victim to an area hospital, where he later died.
According to IMPD, homicide detectives collected evidence, reviewed possible video, and interviewed witnesses. Their investigation led them to identify a 16-year-old as the suspect. Working with the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office, detectives secured a warrant on September 13.
Two days later, on September 15, members of IMPD’s Violent Crimes Unit arrested the suspect in the 11000 block of North Pennsylvania Street in Carmel, Indiana. Police emphasized that an arrest and charges are accusations, and the suspect is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
IMPD credited community partnerships, technology upgrades, and the work of its officers for helping bring the case forward.
