Aurora, IL – Drivers and residents in Aurora should expect road closures and a heavy police presence today as the Aurora Police Department conducts a multi-jurisdictional training exercise. The drill is scheduled to run from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Beckwith Street.

According to the Aurora Illinois Police Department, Beckwith Street is closed between Grove Street and Superior Street during the exercise. Specialized vehicles and equipment will be in use, and signs have been posted in the area to make clear this is a training event, not an active incident.

The exercise is being conducted by the department’s Special Response Team (SRT) along with other participating agencies. Police emphasized that while the training will bring a large presence of officers into the area, there is no threat to the community.

City officials noted that school operations will not be disrupted. Drop-off and pick-up for area schools are expected to run normally despite the nearby road closure.

Authorities are asking drivers to avoid the area if possible and to plan ahead for potential delays near downtown Aurora.

The department thanked residents for their patience as they carry out what they called “important training” to prepare officers for emergency response situations.
