Indianapolis, IN – A 26-year-old man was arrested in Marion County after authorities say a probation compliance check led to the discovery of a firearm equipped with a machine gun conversion device.

According to the Indiana Crime Guns Task Force (ICGTF), detectives worked alongside the Marion County Probation Department on April 27 during a compliance check at a home in the 7200 block of Carlsen Avenue. The operation was part of ongoing efforts targeting individuals prohibited from possessing firearms.

Officials said detectives encountered multiple individuals inside the residence who were known to be restricted from having guns. During the check, officers allegedly observed illegal contraband in plain view both inside the home and in a vehicle parked in the driveway. Search warrants were later obtained and executed.

Authorities reported that a handgun fitted with a machine gun conversion device was recovered from one of the vehicles. The suspect, identified as Tony Hopkins, was taken into custody and preliminarily charged with possession of a machine gun.

According to officials, the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office will determine final charges. Police emphasized that the arrest remains an allegation, and Hopkins is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.

The ICGTF is a multi-agency partnership operating across central Indiana, focusing on reducing violent crime and illegal firearm activity through coordinated enforcement and investigative strategies.
