Manteno, Ill. – One person is dead and two others are injured after a three-vehicle collision shut down Route 50 in far northern Kankakee County Friday morning. Illinois State Police say the crash happened around 7:30 a.m. at the intersection of Route 50 and County Line Road, just north of Manteno.
According to troopers, three people were taken to area hospitals for treatment. One of them later died from their injuries. The victim’s identity is being withheld until family members are notified.
Route 50 was closed for several hours as investigators reconstructed the crash scene and crews cleared the wreckage. Drivers in the area were rerouted onto nearby county roads, adding significant travel delays during the morning commute.
Authorities have not released details about what led to the collision. The Illinois State Police are continuing to investigate and have not indicated whether charges may be filed.
