Manteno, IL – Emergency crews rescued trapped occupants after a single-vehicle crash on I-57 early Sunday. The vehicle rolled into a pond near mile marker 318 around 6:20 a.m.
According to the Manteno Fire Protection District, the crash left occupants trapped inside as water began filling the vehicle. Firefighters performed a water rescue to free those inside. Authorities have not released details on the victims’ conditions.
Illinois State Police closed a portion of I-57 during the rescue, urging drivers to avoid the area. The roadway reopened later in the morning.
First responders credited swift action and teamwork for the successful rescue. The crash remains under investigation, with wet roads possibly contributing to the incident.
