Berwyn, IL – A stolen vehicle hit a 55-year-old pedestrian during a police pursuit near Harlem Avenue on Wednesday. The victim, now hospitalized, remains in critical condition.
According to the Berwyn Police Department, the incident began when North Riverside Police attempted a traffic stop near the North Riverside Park Mall around 6:00 p.m. The driver of the vehicle did not comply and fled northbound on Harlem Avenue. After hitting the pedestrian, the driver continued, crashing into two police officers and a civilian on Grove Avenue.
The suspect abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot. Police set up a perimeter, but the search has been unsuccessful. The injured officers and civilian sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were treated.
Authorities do not believe the suspect is still in Berwyn. The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information or surveillance footage is encouraged to contact the Berwyn Police Hotline at 708-749-6564. The department is working with the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office on this case.
