Goodland, KS – A powerful winter storm system is sweeping through eastern Colorado and northwestern Kansas, with some areas expected to receive up to 24 inches of snow. The National Weather Service warns that this storm, active until Thursday at 5 p.m. MST, will bring heavy snowfall and hazardous travel conditions, particularly in Sherman County, Kansas, and Cheyenne, Kit Carson, and Yuma counties in Colorado.
The storm’s intensity could lead to near-zero visibility and impassable roads along major routes, including Interstate 70 from Flagler, Colorado, to Goodland, Kansas, and Highway 385. Officials expect the worst conditions overnight Wednesday into Thursday, with additional snowfall compounding risks on already icy roads.
Residents are urged to delay nonessential travel and to carry emergency supplies if travel is unavoidable. For updates, travelers in Kansas, Nebraska, and Colorado can call 511. As the storm progresses, snow accumulations could significantly impact the region, creating difficulties in transportation and safety.
