Illinois Circuit Judge Found Dead in Home After Welfare Check

Edwards County, IL – Circuit Judge Michael J. Valentine was found dead Tuesday in his Edwards County home. The discovery came after deputies conducted a welfare check at his residence around 12:15 p.m.

The Edwards County Sheriff’s Department reported that a request for the welfare check was made earlier that day. Deputies discovered Judge Valentine deceased shortly after arriving at his home. Sheriff Darby Boewe confirmed that the Illinois State Police and the Edwards County Coroner are leading the investigation into Judge Valentine’s death.

According to Sheriff Boewe, there is no public threat related to the incident. Officials have not disclosed further details about the circumstances of Judge Valentine’s passing. Sheriff Boewe expressed condolences to Judge Valentine’s family and friends, acknowledging the judge’s long-standing service in the Second Judicial Circuit.

The investigation remains ongoing, with Illinois State Police expected to release additional information as it becomes available.
