Porter County, IN – Roadwork will soon impact traffic on U.S. 20 between Dombey Road and Willowcreek Road in Porter County. Starting Monday, September 23, lanes will reduce to one in each direction for approximately four weeks. The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) announced the closures for preventative bridge maintenance over the CSX railroad.
According to INDOT, during the first phase, eastbound lanes will close, and all traffic will shift to the westbound side. During phase two, traffic will move to the eastbound lanes. The department urges drivers to expect delays and be cautious in the work zone, particularly during peak hours.
INDOT advises commuters to allow extra time for their routes and to remain aware of changing traffic patterns. The roadwork aims to maintain the structural integrity of the bridge deck and improve safety.
Drivers should prepare for alternating lane closures, changing traffic patterns, and possible delays. Those familiar with the area should consider alternate routes, especially during rush hour.
The project is expected to conclude by late October, depending on weather conditions and project progression.
