Portland, ME – A winter weather advisory is in effect for northern Maine and parts of New Hampshire as a period of mixed precipitation is expected to begin Saturday afternoon. The advisory, issued by the National Weather Service, warns of up to one inch of snow, half an inch of sleet, and ice accumulation of up to a tenth of an inch in some areas. Elevated surfaces may see more significant ice buildup, especially above 2,000 feet.

The affected areas include Northern Oxford, Northern Franklin, and Central Somerset counties in Maine, as well as Northern and Southern Coos counties in New Hampshire. The advisory will be in effect from 1 p.m. Saturday until 8 a.m. Sunday.

Temperatures are expected to remain below freezing during the event, which could result in hazardous travel conditions. The National Weather Service advises residents to slow down, avoid unnecessary travel, and use caution on icy and slippery roads. Wind gusts of up to 40 mph are possible at higher elevations, compounding the weather challenges.
