Caribou, ME – A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for portions of Maine, warning residents of freezing rain and slippery conditions overnight into Tuesday morning.
The advisory, issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) in Caribou, is in effect from 11 p.m. Monday to 8 a.m. Tuesday. Ice accumulations up to one-tenth of an inch are expected, potentially creating hazardous conditions on roads. Affected areas include Northwest Aroostook, Northern Somerset, and the Central Highlands, among others.
According to the NWS, the freezing rain will make roads dangerously slick, especially during the Tuesday morning commute. Drivers are advised to plan extra travel time, drive with caution, and monitor local weather updates.
Maine officials recommend avoiding unnecessary travel during the advisory and urge residents to check the latest road conditions at newengland511.org. Motorists should keep an emergency kit in their vehicles and ensure phones are fully charged in case of delays.
Stay informed and take precautions as freezing rain may also lead to limited visibility and icy walkways.
