Caribou, ME – A powerful winter storm is set to impact Northeast Aroostook County on Friday, bringing up to 10 inches of snow and wind gusts as high as 40 mph.
According to the National Weather Service in Caribou, a Winter Storm Warning is in effect from 2 a.m. to 7 p.m. EST on Friday. Heavy snowfall and strong winds will create hazardous travel conditions, particularly during the morning and evening commutes.
The affected areas include Caribou, Presque Isle, Van Buren, Mars Hill, and Ashland. Forecasters warn that blowing and drifting snow could lead to whiteout conditions, making travel extremely dangerous in open areas.
Residents are advised to avoid unnecessary travel during the storm. If travel is essential, authorities recommend keeping an emergency kit in vehicles, including a flashlight, food, and water.
Snow accumulation is expected to reach between 7 and 10 inches, with the heaviest snowfall occurring during the morning hours. Winds reaching 40 mph could further reduce visibility and create treacherous road conditions.
