Caribou, Maine – Residents across Maine can expect a few isolated to scattered showers Friday before a warmer and mainly dry Saturday gives way to a wetter pattern heading into early next week.
According to the National Weather Service in Caribou, an upper-level low moving across the region will generate scattered showers Friday, with the greatest coverage across northern and eastern Maine. High temperatures will generally range from the low to mid-70s across northern communities, including Caribou, Presque Isle, Houlton, Fort Kent and Millinocket, while Bangor, Bar Harbor and Downeast communities climb closer to 80 degrees.
Saturday brings a welcome break for most of the state, with partly to mostly sunny skies and warmer temperatures. Afternoon highs are expected to reach the lower to middle 80s across much of central and interior Maine, making it the best day of the weekend for outdoor activities.
The weather turns more unsettled beginning Sunday afternoon, especially across northern and northwestern Maine, as showers and thunderstorms develop ahead of an approaching cold front. According to the National Weather Service, the front will move across the state on Monday, bringing additional rounds of showers and the possibility of thunderstorms.
Anyone with outdoor plans late Sunday into Monday should monitor updated forecasts, as thunderstorms could produce brief heavy downpours, lightning and locally gusty winds. Travelers should also be prepared for reduced visibility during heavier showers.
Forecast confidence remains highest for a widespread return to wet weather Monday, and additional advisories may be issued if thunderstorm coverage or rainfall intensity increases.
