Maine Weather Alert: Bitter Cold and Chance of Snow Along Route 1 Thursday

Caribou, ME – Northern Maine residents are urged to prepare for bitter cold temperatures and hazardous conditions continuing through Thursday. Wind chill values could drop as low as -25°F, posing risks of frostbite and hypothermia for exposed skin within minutes.

According to the National Weather Service, a cold weather advisory remains in effect until Thursday morning. Temperatures are expected to remain near or below zero, with increasing clouds tonight and a slight chance of snow showers on Thursday. Highs Thursday will reach only 16°F, with lows dropping to -12°F.

The cold snap is expected to ease by Friday as temperatures climb to 17°F under mostly sunny skies. Saturday will bring further relief with highs near 20°F, though wind chill values may remain below freezing.

Travelers along Route 1 and surrounding areas should exercise caution and dress in layers, wearing hats and gloves. Residents are encouraged to limit time outdoors and bring pets inside.

Looking ahead, Sunday offers a break from the extreme cold, with highs nearing 27°F and partly sunny skies. The warming trend should persist into early next week, though overnight temperatures will remain frigid.
