Champaign, IL – Central Illinois residents should brace for dangerously cold wind chills and light snow expected this evening. Temperatures will remain below freezing, with wind chills as low as -18°F through Thursday morning. A cold weather advisory remains in effect until 6 a.m.

According to the National Weather Service, light snow is likely to move in late tonight, especially near and north of I-72. Accumulations are expected to be minimal, generally less than an inch, but slick roads may impact travel. Wind gusts could reach 22 mph tonight, creating blowing snow in some areas.

Thursday will bring partly sunny skies with a high near 24°F, but wind chills will stay between 5°F and 10°F. Drivers should exercise caution on icy roadways, especially during the evening hours. By Friday, temperatures will reach a high of 23°F with mostly sunny skies, offering a brief reprieve from bitter conditions.

The weekend outlook includes a warming trend. Saturday’s high is expected to climb to 38°F under partly sunny skies, though Friday night will still bring lows near 16°F. Sunday will remain cool, with highs in the upper 30s and decreasing clouds.

Residents should bundle up, limit time outdoors, and ensure pets are protected during the cold snap. Use extra caution while driving tonight and prepare for potential icy patches.
