Caribou, Maine – Maine residents are enduring sweltering July heat as temperatures climb into the upper 80s and low 90s across much of the state, with humidity pushing heat indices above 95 degrees in spots by Wednesday afternoon. Many inland areas, including the Penobscot and Piscataquis Valleys, will see the most intense conditions, while coastal regions remain slightly cooler.

According to the National Weather Service in Caribou, the heat and humidity will peak Wednesday, with dew points nearing 70 degrees. Isolated afternoon showers or thunderstorms may pop up in the Crown of Maine and northern communities both Tuesday and Wednesday, but most locations will stay dry and sunny.

Thursday brings a change as a cold front triggers more widespread showers and thunderstorms—especially in the North and West. Locally heavy downpours are possible, and travel on highways like I-95 could be impacted by sudden rainfall and reduced visibility. Residents should keep devices charged and avoid unnecessary travel during storms.

Relief arrives Friday and Saturday as cooler, less humid air moves in. While a stray shower or thunderstorm is possible Friday, Saturday is expected to be dry for most of the state. This early summer heatwave is the most intense so far this season, similar to last July’s spike.

Watches and advisories remain possible as the weather shifts, with the next update expected Wednesday evening.
