Caribou, Maine – Showers and thunderstorms could disrupt Tuesday plans across northern Maine, including along U.S. Route 1 near Caribou, as a cold front moves through.

According to the National Weather Service in Caribou, scattered storms will develop after 2 p.m. today, July 1, with some capable of producing heavy downpours and gusty winds up to 25 mph. The most intense activity will occur over western areas, but Caribou could still see brief periods of moderate rain this afternoon. Patchy fog could linger into mid-morning, creating additional visibility hazards on rural roads.

Winds from the south today will increase to 14 mph, helping fuel storm development. Although no widespread severe weather is expected, isolated storms may briefly disrupt outdoor activities or local travel. Rain chances taper off late tonight, but more active weather is on the way.

Looking ahead to the July 4th weekend, Wednesday brings a welcome break with mostly sunny skies and highs near 84°F. Thursday and Friday turn unsettled again, with thunderstorms likely by Thursday afternoon and a slight chance of showers continuing into Friday night.

Independence Day celebrations on Friday may dodge the worst weather, with only a 40% chance of showers and a high around 71°F in Caribou. Still, event planners should monitor conditions closely, especially during the late afternoon and evening hours.

Warnings are not currently in effect, but residents should stay weather-aware as conditions shift through the week.
