Caribou, ME – A spring weather system is poised to impact Caribou and surrounding areas as the weekend progresses, bringing mixed precipitation and a potential travel hazard. As of Saturday, snow will begin to affect the region, transitioning into sleet and freezing rain before all precipitation turns to rain early Sunday morning. Local travelers should prepare for slick roads and reduced visibility during the overnight and early morning hours.

According to the National Weather Service, temperatures will hover around 30°F on Saturday evening, with winds gusting up to 29 mph. The rain is expected to start around 7 p.m. Saturday and last until early Sunday morning. As conditions shift from snow to sleet and ice, be aware of icy patches on roadways, especially along rural routes like Route 1 in northern Maine, which may become hazardous.

For Sunday, the rain is expected to taper off by midday, with temperatures reaching a high of 46°F. Sunday night will see cooler conditions with lows near 24°F, but by Monday, skies will clear, and temperatures will rise slightly to 39°F. The coming week will feature more moderate weather, though additional chances of snow are possible on Tuesday and Wednesday.

With winter-like conditions returning this weekend, travelers should exercise caution on the roads and stay informed of weather alerts. Remember to adjust your plans accordingly, allowing extra time for travel.
