Caribou, ME – A winter storm is set to impact northern Maine late Friday night through Sunday morning, bringing significant snowfall and hazardous travel conditions. Snow totals could reach up to 8 inches in parts of Aroostook County.

According to the National Weather Service Caribou, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday for Aroostook, Somerset, and Piscataquis counties. Snow will begin early Saturday morning and continue throughout the day, turning into a wintry mix in some areas before tapering off.

Heaviest accumulations of 6-8 inches are expected in northern areas, including Dickey and Van Buren. Areas like Lincoln and Bangor will see a rain-snow mix with lower totals of 1-3 inches. Gusty winds up to 30 mph could create blowing snow and reduced visibility.

As temperatures drop Saturday night, refreezing on roads may lead to slick spots into Sunday morning. Residents should use caution and check for travel advisories.

The storm will move out Sunday, bringing drier conditions, but another system could develop next week. Travelers should stay updated on forecasts.
