Maine – Wind rattles bare branches this morning as clouds slide quickly across southern Maine and New Hampshire. The air feels sharper by the hour, and winter is far from finished. A series of fast-moving snow squalls today gives way to the coldest stretch of the season, followed by a growing risk of accumulating snow late this weekend.

Scattered snow showers and brief snow squalls may flare up at times today from Portland southward and inland. According to the National Weather Service in Gray, these bursts could briefly reduce visibility and coat roads, especially during heavier showers this afternoon. Drivers may encounter sudden whiteouts, even if conditions look calm minutes earlier.

Cold air deepens tonight and Friday. Skies clear, but temperatures drop hard. Lows dip into the teens, with wind chills sinking into the single digits. Friday stays mostly sunny, yet highs struggle to reach the upper 20s across southern New Hampshire and coastal Maine.

Saturday brings bright sun but biting cold. Afternoon highs hover near 10 to 15 degrees, with gusty northwest winds making it feel colder. Snow begins to develop Saturday night as clouds thicken, setting the stage for a more organized system.

Sunday turns unsettled. Snow becomes more likely through the day, with periods of steady snowfall possible into Sunday night. Roads could turn slick quickly as snow falls on frozen pavement. Flash freezing remains a concern wherever snow briefly compacts or melts. Travel along I-95, Route 1, and interior highways may slow.

Snow chances linger into Monday before tapering. Cold conditions persist into early next week, keeping snowpack in place and prolonging icy spots. Longer-range outlooks suggest additional chances for precipitation as an active winter pattern holds.
