Milford, ME – A Pennsylvania woman was arrested early Sunday after authorities allegedly found her 3-year-old daughter deceased inside a vehicle in Milford.

According to the Maine State Police, the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office responded Saturday evening to a local business after a request from concerned family members to check the welfare of Kelly Brown, 40, and her child. Deputies located the vehicle, registered to Brown of Havertown, Pennsylvania, and discovered the child unresponsive inside. Brown was found nearby and detained.

Authorities said the pair had been the subject of an earlier attempt-to-locate notice. The Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit North and Evidence Response Team joined the investigation, working alongside the sheriff’s office to document the scene and collect evidence.

The child’s body was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta for an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of death.

At approximately 5 a.m. Sunday, Brown was arrested by Maine State Police and charged with manslaughter. She was booked at the Penobscot County Jail and is awaiting her initial court appearance at the Penobscot Judicial Center.

Investigators have not released additional details about the circumstances leading to the child’s death, and the case remains under active investigation.
