Greenville, ME – Residents of northern Maine are urged to prepare for high winds and fluctuating weather conditions this weekend. Wind gusts of up to 40 mph will hit areas, especially along higher terrain, including parts of Route 15, starting today. Those living in northern Somerset and Piscataquis counties should expect gusty conditions through the afternoon, tapering off by Sunday.
According to the National Weather Service, today’s winds will be followed by a brief period of calm weather on Sunday. However, the calm won’t last long as a low-pressure system is set to bring rain to the area by Sunday night. Rainfall totals between 1 and 2 inches are predicted for much of the region, with the highest amounts likely in Washington County. Drivers should be cautious on local roads as slick conditions may occur, particularly in the western high terrain late Monday.
Temperatures will hover around the low 50s today, but cooler weather will set in by Saturday night with a low near 34°F. Sunday will offer some relief with sunny skies and lighter winds, reaching highs of 52°F. Rain will become widespread Monday.
Looking ahead to Tuesday and Wednesday, breezy conditions will continue, with temperatures dipping into the 40s, bringing more rain and a slight chance of snow.
