Caribou, ME – A powerful winter storm continues to impact northern Maine, bringing heavy snowfall and strong winds. The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for Northeast Aroostook, Northern Penobscot, and Southeast Aroostook Counties, in effect until 7 PM EST Friday.

According to the National Weather Service in Caribou, an additional 3 to 6 inches of snow is expected, with wind gusts reaching 45 mph. These conditions will create whiteout visibility, making travel treacherous. Roads across Caribou, Presque Isle, Houlton, and Millinocket are already slick, and blowing snow could bring down tree branches.

The Friday evening commute is expected to be severely impacted. Officials advise avoiding travel if possible. If driving is necessary, motorists should carry emergency supplies, including a flashlight, food, and water.
