Saanichton, Canada – A magnitude 4.0 earthquake struck 12 kilometers east of Saanichton on Thursday, shaking parts of the Pacific Northwest and Canada. Thousands of residents reported feeling the tremors.

The quake, recorded at 11:05 a.m. UTC at a depth of 52.2 kilometers, was confirmed by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). Although no significant damage or injuries were reported, tremors were felt throughout Vancouver Island and even in Washington State. As of this morning over 2,600 residents had reported feeling the earthquake.

According to USGS, the earthquake’s intensity registered at level IV, with light shaking observed in communities across the region. Reports from Victoria, Saanich, and surrounding areas indicated the quake’s impact, though it was not strong enough to cause structural damage.

Local authorities have urged residents to stay alert for potential aftershocks. Emergency services are monitoring the area and encourage the public to report any signs of damage.

Seismologists continue to study the event, citing the region’s regular tectonic activity. Residents are reminded to review their earthquake safety plans, as even minor quakes are a reminder of the area’s vulnerability to seismic events.
