Richmond, Kentucky — A two-vehicle crash involving a Kentucky State Police cruiser Thursday morning triggered an investigation on US-25 near Interstate 75.

According to Kentucky State Police Post 7 in Richmond, troopers were notified shortly before 7:15 a.m. Thursday of a collision on US-25 (Lexington Road) near the I-75 Exit 90 overpass in Madison County.

Troopers, along with medical personnel, responded to the scene.

Preliminary findings indicate a marked Kentucky State Police patrol vehicle driven by Trooper Albert LaGrange was traveling west on Lexington Road and approaching the intersection near the Exit 90 overpass.

Investigators say a 2014 silver Chevrolet Malibu driven by Tajiua Robinson, 24, of Richmond, was traveling east on Lexington Road and attempted to make a left turn onto Interstate 75 when the crash occurred.

Video footage reviewed during the investigation allegedly shows the marked patrol vehicle had a green traffic signal as it approached the intersection, while the Malibu entered the intersection after disregarding the traffic control device, according to Kentucky State Police.

Both drivers were transported to hospitals for treatment of possible minor injuries.

Robinson was taken to University of Kentucky Albert B. Chandler Hospital, while Trooper LaGrange was transported to Baptist Health Richmond, authorities said.

The collision remains under investigation by Detective Tyler Holt with Kentucky State Police. Officials said the trooper was assisted at the scene by Richmond Police Department, Madison County EMS, and the Richmond Fire Department.

The crash briefly drew emergency response activity near the busy I-75 Exit 90 interchange, an area frequently used by commuters and students traveling through Richmond.

Officials have not released additional details about potential charges as the investigation continues.
