Harrisburg, Pennsylvania – Snow is rapidly replacing rain across the Lower Susquehanna Valley this evening, and roads could turn snow-covered before the Monday morning commute as up to 8 inches pile up in parts of south central Pennsylvania through 1 p.m.

According to the National Weather Service in State College, heavy snow will continue across Dauphin, Lancaster, Lebanon, Schuylkill and York counties as colder air settles in. An additional 2 to 8 inches is expected, with the heaviest totals likely east of the Susquehanna River. Wind gusts could reach 40 mph overnight and Monday morning.

As temperatures fall, untreated roads and bridges will ice over quickly, especially in Harrisburg, Hershey, Lancaster, York and Pottsville. Much of the accumulating snow will wind down by late Monday morning, but blowing snow could reduce visibility and create drifting on stretches of Interstate 83, Route 30 and Interstate 81.

The combination of heavy, wet snow and gusty winds may weigh down tree limbs and bring down isolated power lines, leading to sporadic outages. Crews will work through the night, but conditions may deteriorate faster than plows can respond.

Officials urge residents to delay travel and stay indoors if possible. Dress in layers and cover exposed skin if heading outside. The Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 1 p.m. Monday, and additional alerts could follow if snowfall lingers.
